MPD: Man shot at Shotgun Willie’s

Mobile County

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — Police are looking for a suspect after a man was shot in the ankle at Mobile bar early Sunday morning.  Police say a man was being treated for a gunshot at 4:30 this morning at Mobile Infirmary.  An MPD spokesman said the victim claimed he was shot by someone he knew, and the suspect drove off in a red vehicle.  The victim’s injuries are described as non-life threatening.  The name of the victim and possible suspect have not been released.

Shotgun Willie’s is a bar situated along Halls Mill Road.  The place has seen its share of violence.  In June of 2017 a security guard at the bar, Jeremy Smith, was shot and killed there by a patron according to authorities.  37-year-old Dewayne Wheat is in metro jail awaiting trial on a murder charge in that case.  The shooting death and several noise complaints prompted neighbors to call for the bar to close claiming gunfire from bar patrons has damaged surrounding property.
