MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — The Mobile Police Department has concluded their investigation into an 8-year-old child found dead at Sandpiper Apartments. Police say the child died of natural causes.

The incident happened on April 6, 2018 when officers responded to the apartment complex at 4950 Government Blvd, after receiving a call of an unresponsive 8-year-old child, who had trouble breathing. When officers arrived, the child was pronounced dead by medical officials.

Investigators say the child had medical issues. There were also several other children in the apartment, as many as five, that were removed from the apartment. It is unclear if there were adults in the apartment at the time.

Mobile Police say homicide investigators started an investigation and the autopsy was conducted to determine the exact cause of death.

Mobile Police say there are no criminal charges related to the case.
