Suspect arrested in Mobile attempted bank robbery says it was all for food

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — The Mobile Police Department has made an arrest in connection to an attempted bank robbery. Police say Gabrielle Stewart, 50, was arrested after attempted to rob the Commonwealth National Bank located 2214 Saint Stephens Road Wednesday.  Police say Stewart showed a note saying it was a hold-up, a bank robbery. Stewart then went over to sit and waited as the bank called police. Police arrived within minutes and arrested Stewart.

While being questioned during his escort to jail, Stewart told news crews to “eat food.” When asked why he tried to rob the bank he said, “I like food, I like food.” He said the note he gave tellers said “eat food” and did not mentioned a bank robbery. Stewart also said he was armed with a fork and spoon.

Stewart is charged with Robbery 1st (Bank).
