Toulouse, FRANCE (WKRG) — Mobile Mayor Sandy Simpson wants the city to explore moving Mobile’s commercial airport from Bates Field to the Brookley Aeroplex. Wednesday, he and other political, civic, and business leaders wrapped-up a three-day trip to Toulouse, France, where the main airport, Aeroport Toulouse-Blagnac, sits side-by-side with an Airbus assembly plant similar to the one at Brookley in Mobile.
City Councilman Fred Richardson, Mobile County Commission President Connie Hudson, Mobile Airport Authority officials and others made the trip. About 50 people total were in the Mobile delegation.
The trip was sponsored and organized by the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce. The group visited the Airbus headquarters and toured Airbus’ business, innovation, and research lab. The Mobile group also looked at tourism initiatives in Toulouse.
