MOBILE COUNTY, Ala. (WKRG) — The Mobile County (9-1-1) Communications District is now providing a free service to all citizens in the county. It’s called Smart 9-1-1.

Smart 9-1-1 allows individuals and families to sign up and fill out an online profile that provides key information to first responders. This information will help those trying to render aid to the caller. Any special needs situation, medication requirements, emergency contact information, specific instructions or directions and just any information the citizen wants to provide emergency responders.

“Smart 9-1-1 saves critical time in an emergency and has proven to save lives nationwide,” said Charlie McNichol, Mobile County’s 9-1-1 Director. “The additional information provided in a Smart 9-1-1 profile enables us to know exactly where we are going and gives more insight into an emergency. We encourage everyone to fill out a profile to help ensure an even faster and more efficient response.”

Smart 9-1-1 is available in 40 states and more than 1,500 communities across the country. It has been credited with impacting the quick location of a missing child where the photo was in the profile and with saving heart attack victims due to medics having prior knowledge before arriving.

You can fill out your profile at smart911.com. If you have any questions you can call the administrative office at Mobile County 9-1-1. Their phone number is (251) 639-2360.
