MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) – Mobile City Council has declared Thursday “Lemon Face Day“ to honor the life of Aubreigh Nicholas.
Aubreigh’s family was on hand for the declaration. Thursday would have been Aubreigh’s 12th birthday.
Aubreigh was diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma, or DIPG, in September 2017. She lost her battle in August of 2018.
She gained international attention when she started the “Lemon Face Challenge“ last year on her birthday to help spread awareness about DIPG through social media. Many took her challenge, including Congressman Bradley Byrne and Nick Saban.
To honor her memory, her family is hosting the Inaugural Lemon Face Gala on March 28, on what would have been her birthday. The gala supports Aubreigh’s Army Foundation 328, which provides funding to help find a cure for DIPG.
