UPDATE (4/14 1:55 pm) — Mobile Police (MPD) say an 18-year-old has been charged with the murder of 19-year-old Tyriek Esters.
18-year-old Roderick Sykes has been charged with murder and is currently in Mobile Metro Jail. Mobile Police say the suspect and the victim did know each other and it was not a random act.

On Sunday, April 11, 2021, at approximately 11:30 a.m., police responded to the 2800 block of Old Shell Road in reference to one shot. Upon arrival, officers located a male victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to the hospital and later died as a result of his injuries. The male victim was identified as 19-year-old Tyriek Esters. This is an active homicide investigation.
UPDATE (4:48 p.m. 4/11/21): Mobile police say a 19-year-old was killed in a shooting on Old Shell Road Sunday morning.
Police responded to the 2800 block of Old Shell Road at about 11:30 a.m. in reference to one shot. When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to the hospital and later died as a result of his injuries.
The man was identified as 19-year-old Tyriek Esters. This is an active homicide investigation.
MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — According to the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office My Neighborhood Crime Map a shooting occurred Sunday morning on Old Shell Road. This is a neighborhood directly adjacent to one of the athletic fields at UMS Wright.
Neighbors say they heard gunshots and believe someone was shot in a backyard. We did see one ambulance leave with lights flashing when we arrived.
The shooting occurred at 2839 Old Shell Road around 11:35 AM. There is no further information at this time.
