Prichard, Ala. (WKRG) —
A man in Prichard is recovering tonight after he says he was jumped, beaten and robbed by three people in his own front yard. Willie Smith says, when he came home to his house on South Leeds Avenue Friday afternoon, he was blindsided.
“I didn’t know what to think after he hit me in the face with whatever he hit me with they kept hollering for the money, give me the money, give me the money, give me the money,” said Smith. Saturday Smith nursed a swollen face, fractured arm, and other injuries. The whole thing worried his family.
“I was just praying he was going to be okay, he’s already sickly and for them to do something like that is just frightening,” said daughter Nikita Smith. The victim says the people who jumped him are people he knows.
“For someone you know, you would never think they would do this to you but it happened to me,” said Smith. Smith says the trio who assaulted him probably knew he had just gotten his disabled veteran benefits and were trying to steal that money.
“It was very scary man, just like a home invasion, I see it on TV but I never thought it would happen to me,” said Smith. Smith says he intends on prosecuting when the people are caught. News 5 has reached out to Prichard Police. They are investigating, at last check they said no arrests have been made.
