UPDATE (2:45 p.m.): Mobile Police said an officer and a fireman were injured during a welfare check at a home on Hawkins Street Thursday morning. Police said the 79-year-old man they were checking on fired a gun, shattering glass in a door. The officer and fireman were injured from the shattered glass.

Police said they arrived at the 800 block of Hawkins Street at about 11:17 Thursday morning. Officers knocked many times on the home’s door to no answer.

Police said they then tried to enter the home. That’s when the man fired a gun, shattering glass in the door. Police said they do not think the gunfire was intentional.

Police said the officer’s and fireman’s injuries are “minor.” Police said no one faces charges at this time.

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — The Mobile Police Department and Mobile Fire-Rescue are on the scene of a local home in Mobile Thursday morning.

According to MPD, officers were sent to 809 Hawkins Street along with MFRD to “conduct a welfare check” on a man in the house. Deputies said no one was shot.
