Mobile, Ala. (WKRG)- The City of Mobile celebrated National Arbor Day Friday by giving residents free trees. From fruit trees to live oaks, arborist Peter Toler brought hundreds of plants for people to take.
Located at 1900 Hurlet St. residents walked away with two free infant trees from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Toler says next he plans to have more fruit trees such as apple available to the masses.
Fun Facts about Mobile Trees:
- Bienville Square is home to 87 trees.
- 86 of those are Live Oak, one is a Magnolia tree.
- The Duffie Oak tree on Caroline St. is the oldest living inhabitant in Mobile.
