MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — Family of Justin Mooney, the man killed in a triple shooting Saturday on Raven Drive, gathered together Tuesday night for a candlelight vigil.
The shooting is still an active murder investigation.
Monday night before police made an arrest, family of Mooney honored his memory. As family members lit their candles, they spoke about the man leaving a big hole in their hearts.
One of Mooney’s cousins said, “I want to say, Justin I love you. You were my cousin.” She continued saying, “I want to say I’m going to miss you. I’m going to miss your smile the most because it was so warm.”
Mooney was killed in a triple shooting on Raven Drive Saturday afternoon. His family says he was caught in the crossfire of a drive-by shooting.
His cousin said, “Everybody who has anybody, hug them, love them, power them, because you never know when your day is coming. They say here today, gone tomorrow, but Lord it’s here today and gone today.”
Mooney’s Aunt, Dorothia DeLoach, spoke about the amazing man he was. She said,”He did everything he could for his Mom, his brother, his sisters, his nieces, his nephews, he’s going to be well missed.” DeLoach said her nephew was in the wrong place at the wrong time. She said, “I heard he went to work that day, came out here again just to check on his Mom and to do what he needed to do for her.”
While the family may not be able to see Mooney, DeLoach says he will always be with them. She said, “He might be flying over us right now, looking down, Momma it’s going to be alright. It’s going to be alright, Momma.”
His cousin closed out the vigil in prayer, saying, “Lord, in the name of Jesus, uplift us, and right now just give us the strength and the courage to make it through these days.”
Police arrested 23-year-old Patrick Johnson and charged him with murder in connection with the shooting. MPD needs help locating a second person of interest, Myles Caples.
