MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — The family of a 16-year old girl accused of stabbing another teenager is standing behind her.
Mobile Police charged Destine’e Rogers with first-degree assault after she allegedly stabbed a 15-year old boy Wednesday afternoon.
It happened in front of Dollar Treat on Dr. Martin Luther King Junior Avenue.
“She could’ve really hurt him,” Rogers’s grandmother, Henrietta Major, tells News 5.
They say she was working at the store, which her mother owns when the boy continuously antagonized her. Her family says he grabbed her out front of the store and she stabbed him in self-defense.
William Walker, Rogers’s stepfather, is angered the boy isn’t facing charges as well. “I want to know why is it able for somebody to come to your place of business and assault you and when you protect yourself and your business, why is she arrested?”
Mobile Police say Rogers stabbed the boy in the chest and back. He was taken to the hospital in serious condition.
This all playing out across the street from an elementary school.
Rogers’ family says while they support her, they also went to the hospital Wednesday night to check on the boy.
“We praying that he continues to be in good health. There’s no winner here. She’s in Metro and he’s in the hospital,” said Major.
News 5 asked police if they plan to charge the boy and they said nothing has changed about the investigation at this time.
