MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) – Guns, drugs and tens of thousands of dollars are now off the streets Thursday following a Mobile Police operation.

The raids happened at Mobile Terrace off Cody Rd. and Athey Rd. off Zeigler. Nine people were arrested during the raids.

Police were able to take about two pounds of marijuana off the streets, along with several guns and $73,000 of cash.

Chief Battiste says the investigation for, ‘Operation West Side’ spanned several months. The department wanted to arrest 14 people in the raid, it arrested five of those 14, then four other unintended targets in the process.

“By executing these search warrants and taking these weapons off the streets, it should have a significant blow to the communities we executed these search warrants in,” said Mobile Police Chief Battiste. “Certainly we hope it has an impact on our community by taking these weapons off the streets and help make our communities much safer.”

The department says it hasn’t run the numbers on the guns yet to see whether or not they’re stolen.

Of the two women and seven men arrested, five were intended targets.
