Death row inmate re-sentenced to death for capital murder

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — The Mobile District Attorney’s Office says an inmate on death row was re-sentenced to death Tuesday. Dennis Hicks was convicted of capital murder in 2016 and sentenced to death for the murder of Joshua Duncan.

The conviction was affirmed in July. Hicks remains on death row.

Mobile County Health Department hosting vaccine event at historic church on MLK Day

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) -- Officials with the Mobile County Health Department will be offering a limited number of COVID-19 vaccines as part of a day of service on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. According to a news release from the health department, they will provide influenza vaccinations, COVID-19 testing, and COVID-19 vaccinations to eligible Mobile County residents starting at 8:30 Monday morning at Stone Street Baptist Church in Mobile.

At least 100 doses have been allocated for the event Monday. There could be more depending on the turnout at Saturday's COVID vaccination event. The COVID vaccine is only available to people age 75 and older. Stone Street Baptist Church is located at 311 Tunstall Street in Mobile.

Long lines for seniors in Mobile County’s first open COVID vaccination event

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) -- Hundreds of senior citizens in Mobile aren’t throwing away their shot. Mobile County Health Officials held their first COVID vaccine clinic Saturday that was open to seniors in the general public.

Before the cars could roll into the cruise terminal, people had to wait in line for hours. Some sat patiently since Friday afternoon.

Event planned to honor murder victim in Mobile Saturday

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) -- Family and friends are planning a march today to honor the life of a young father shot to death in Mobile. Jamir Hannah was killed in August at the Avalon Plaza Apartments in Mobile.

The family plans a walk today at 3600 Michael Boulevard at 11 am. The family has also set up a GoFundMe page to start a scholarship for athletes attending ASU. Family members describe 25-year-old Jamir Isaiah Kholil Hannah as a kind, bright young man who was motivated to provide for his family. Family members say they want to see justice in this case. Tadarian Dale was arrested and charged with murder in this incident.
