Daycare damaged by fire plans to reopen Tuesday

Mobile County

Workers at a daycare in Mobile hope to reopen their doors tomorrow(August 21).  Creative Kids Daycare on Azalea Road remained closed today following a fire Sunday night.

“It’s a mess, it can be fixed but it’s a mess,” said owner Nita Davis optimistically.  Initially, the owner thought they could reopen Monday but had to put that on hold as fire investigators sifted through the wreckage.

“I’m disappointed, but everything happens for a reason, it’s out of my control,” said Davis.  Parents drove up expecting to leave their kids behind were surprised by the news.

“My youngest daughter has been going here since she was six weeks and I didn’t know, I’m just pulling up and I hate that it happened I hope everything’s okay,” said mom Eboni Kelley.  Parents seemed to have a lot of praise for Creative Kids and hoped they could get back up and running soon.

“It’s kind of upsetting because it’s a good daycare and it’s just a real inconvenience for me now I’m going to have to find a way to get them home from school today so it’s kind of hurtful,” said Vatrinka White.  The owner believes they have enough space with portable classrooms on the property.  She says roughly 70 kids attend Mondays.  The cause of the fire has not been determined yet.  It appears the fire started in one room of their main building.  The owner says they’re at least thankful it happened when no one was inside.
