MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — And the bracket winner is…

No, we’re not talking about basketball. This conversation is about beer and the best place in the South to get it.

That honor goes to Callaghan’s Irish Social Club in Mobile, at least according to the March Madness-style bracket voted on by readers of Garden and Gun.

Thirty-two bars made up the field, which included other local spots such as Flora-Bama and Old Hickory Whiskey Bar in Pensacola. Callaghan’s actually survived a head-to-head matchup with Flora-Bama in the Elite Eight.

Of course, being the “South’s Favorite Bar” isn’t just about having the best beer selection. Locals also love Callaghan’s for their burgers and live music.

Then there’s the tradition. Callaghan’s has been a go-to place for decades, having been around since 1946.

Players’ Retreat in Raleigh, North Carolina was the runner-up in the bracket.
