The man arrested Wednesday for the murder of Lelia Smith has a connection with a cold case murder. Shannon Campbell was found shot in front of her home with her toddler by her side, according to WKRG coverage from February 2008. According to Mobile County Marriage Records, Shannon Marie Fitch married Kenny Lee Campbell in February 2005.
In early February 2008, Shannon applied for a domestic abuse restraining order against her husband, Kenny Campbell. Two days later, on February 7, 2008, Kenny Campbell was arrested and charged with domestic violence, according to Mobile County jail records. He was released less than two hours later.
On February 23, 2008, Mobile Police were called to Woodley Road and discovered the body of Shannon Campbell. No arrest was ever made in that case. Mobile Police confirm to News 5 that investigators are now looking into that case again.
Kenny Lee Campbell was arrested Wednesday evening and charged with the death of Lelia Smith, a woman with whom he fathered a child with, according to Mobile Police. Her body was discovered in a car on Bear Fork Road in March.
