BREAKING: Davidson High School head football coach placed on administrative leave

Mobile County

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) –Davidson High School football head coach Fred Riley Wednesday was placed on administrative leave.

The school system would give no further details about the longtime coach. “We don’t comment on personnel matters,” said Mobile County Public Schools Director of Communication Rena Philips,

Fred Riley is the coach at the center of the Davidson High School hazing scandal after video surfaced in April showing freshman Rodney Kim Jr. being beaten in the school locker room by eight of his teammates. Kim Jr suffered a broken arm during the incident and his family says he suffers mental trauma.

Kim’s parents have filed a $12 million lawsuit against the school system and are calling for Coach Riley to be fired.

Last week, two other former Davidson players and their families joined the lawsuit saying they too were beaten by other football players. They claim Riley knew about the violence.

The eight players who beat Kim were expelled and arrested.

The Davidson High School Football program began football camp on Monday, August 6th.
