UPDATE: More than 100 young men and women joined the military today. The annual Oath of Enlistment Ceremony was held virtually for the first time from Battleship Memorial Park. The annual event normally draws dozens of people to the aircraft pavilion. During this ceremony, servicemen and women take the oath of enlistment for the first time and begin their military careers. Veterans advocate Dr. Barry Booth said they had approximately 125 take the oath. This is the 5th time for the ceremony and the first time it’s been held online only.
ORIGINAL STORY: MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — A military tradition is going virtual this year. This year’s annual “Oath of Enlistment” ceremony at Battleship Memorial Park will be held on Facebook Live instead of in-person.
This is where young men and women read the oath of enlistment as they begin their careers in different branches of the armed services. Normally this is an event that draws a large crowd to the aircraft hangar at the park. The last in-person Oath of Enlistment ceremony was in 2019.
