A mobile county man has been in charged with contempt of court for failing to pay over $24,000 in child support. Isaac Moore, 56, was booked into Mobile Metro Jail Monday morning on the order of Judge Michael Sherman. The order states that Moore is to be held until he pays a $1,000 fine, which will then be applied to the back child support.
In July of 1989, Moore was ordered to pay $37.50 per week child support for his son. Doing the math, that is 650 weeks, or 12 and a half years, of back payments. The filings say that interest in the amount of $56,557.42 has accumulated.
In researching this story, WKRG was able to find that Moore also has a second child support case against him. In that case, according to court records, Moore is $26,760.78 behind in payments. He was ordered to pay $171.84 per month starting in October 2003 for another child. Interest, in this case, is reported to the court to be $18,872.42.
According to the filings, a total $51,140,60 in back support alone, not including the accrued interest.
