Bayou La Batre, Ala. (WKRG) — Boats and blessings are part of the celebration today in Bayou La Batre. The annual Blessing of the Fleet happens later this afternoon in the Bayou. Archbishop Thomas Rodi will lead people in prayer and bless every vessel. It’s part of an ancient tradition to ask God for a bountiful harvest and protect the people at sea.
Today is the last day of the festival at St. Margaret Catholic Church. The festivities resume at 10 this morning but the main event is the land parade at 2 pm with the fleet blessing to immediately follow. For more information, you can check their website.
