MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — Employees with Austal and speaker K.L. Moore spoke with junior and senior girls at Mattie T. Blount High School Thursday. It was an event in honor of Women’s History Month for March.
According to a press release the event was aimed to:
1) Expose high school girls to non-traditional careers underrepresented by women
2) Inspire them to think outside the box, plan, set goals & dream big despite their current circumstance
3) Increase awareness of the need for self-respect & respect for others around them
“Here at Blount there’s a lot of opportunities for girls to get this information and to make a larger impact,” said speaker K.L. Moore. “I feel like this might be an area where some of these topics are sort of shoved underneath the carpet and not really come to the surface. So I felt Blount would be a great start for that.”
Principal Jordan Woods says showing girls more possibilities in life is the goal. “I hope they walked away with some nuggets to give them the opportunities to walk into places with confidence, to be able to go after jobs that girls wouldn’t normally go after and think about careers they could be in as well.”
