UPDATE: Mobile Police identify driver, passengers killed in Jeep train accident

Update (4:24pm) — Mobile Police have identified the two passengers who died as 27-year-old Jeremy Patterson of Eight Mile and 27-year-old Charles Gaston of Mobile.

Update (3:30pm) — Mobile Police have identified the driver in Sunday’s early morning fatal crash. The driver of the Jeep Wrangler has been identified as 28-year-old Justin McCreary of Mobile. 

Update (2:00pm) — Dauphin Island Parkway I-10 exit reopens following fatal early morning crash.

Three people are dead after an early morning collision involving a train and a Jeep Wrangler.

According to a press release from Mobile Police P.I.O. LaDerrick Dubose:

On Sunday, April 28, 2019 at 4:39 a.m., police responded to the railroad track underneath the eastbound I-10 overpass ramp to southbound Dauphin Island Parkway in reference to a traffic crash.

Preliminary Investigation revealed that a Jeep Wrangler went off the exit ramp onto the rail road tracks. The driver was ejected and died as a result. The front seat female passenger noticed a train heading towards the jeep and was able to escape.

The train was unable to stop before colliding with the Jeep. Two male passengers were also discovered deceased in the rear seat of the Jeep.

The female victim was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. MPD are attempt to contact the next of kin of the three deceased victims. The investigation is ongoing.
