JACKSON, Ala. (WKRG) – Jackson Police Chief Jerry Taylor confirms his department is investigating a deadly shooting Thursday near a gravel pit off of Walker Springs Road.

The driver of a log truck was found dead near his truck, according to the chief. Police believe he was shot and killed Thursday morning around 5 a.m.

Chief Taylor says an employee at the gravel pit called 911 when he found the body. Taylor is not calling this a random act. He’s interviewed several people throughout the day who might have information about the shooting, but so far a suspect has not been named in the case.

The family of the victim has been notified, but his name is not being released at this time.

The gravel pit is located a few miles west of Highway 43 where logging crews have been working, according to Chief Taylor.

We’ll update this story once new information is released.
