Tourist who drowned in Destin identified

DESTIN, Fla. (WKRG) — (UPDATE 6/16 3:54 p.m.) The tourist who drowned in Destin on Friday has been identified.

36-year-old Carlos Wuberto Rodriguez of Baton Rouge, La., was seen flailing his arms in the Gulf of Mexico before being pulled out by bystanders at about 2 p.m. on June 14.

Witnesses say he was already unconscious when he was pulled from the water.

A tourist drowned in Destin Friday afternoon.

The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office says the 38-year-old man was struggling in the waters of the Gulf of Mexico near Gulf Shore Drive. Bystanders helped pull him to shore but he did not survive.

The call came in around 2 p.m.
