TODAY: Alabama House will vote on whether to make abortion a felony

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WIAT) —  A big vote is expected today in the Alabama House. Lawmakers plan to vote on a bill that would outlaw abortions in Alabama. In the video above, CBS 42 State Capitol Bureau Reporter Reshad Hudson brings us more about the bill.

Lawmakers return to Montgomery today and are expected to vote on a bill to outlaw abortions. 
Alabama could soon have one of the most stringent abortion restrictions in the nation. This bill would make performing an abortion in Alabama a felony. 

The bill was introduced as a direct challenge to Roe v.Wade that landmark abortion cases. 

Alabama’s bill would punish doctors who perform abortions. 

The bills would allow abortions in cases where there is a serious health risk to the woman but that is the only exception. 

The bill is sponsored by Republican Rep. Terri Collins.
