MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG)

4 AM Friday: The tornado threat is over for the News 5 area.

The tornado threat is lower west of I-65, but a tornado watch still exists east of I-65. Strong thunderstorms continue tonight with some severe weather still possible east of I-65. Be alert. Have a plan.

Thunderstorms will continue overnight. Some severe weather is likely. The storms will be over by daybreak.

A severe thunderstorm may still be capable of damaging winds in excess of 70 mph, hail, and a brief tornado. Be alert. Make sure you have a safety plan, especially for those in mobile homes. Don’t wait until severe weather is bearing down on you to create a plan. Have multiple ways to get warnings. Remember, your safe place is an interior room away from windows.

Most will get 1-3″ of rain, but higher amounts will be possible. There’s a small risk for flash flooding. Never drive over a flooded roadway.

By daybreak, thunderstorms will be gone. A few showers linger on Friday, but you’ll notice is cooler temperatures. Highs will reach the upper 60s.

The weather clears and stays that way for your easter weekend and into early next week.

Use your WKRG weather app to get alerts for the watches and warnings that may be issued.
