MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WKRG) — The Alabama House of Representatives said yes to two big items on the General Fund Budget.
State employees could see a 2% pay raise. If the State Senate approves this part of the budget, it would be the second year state employee would get a cost-of-living pay increase. Before 2018, state employees had not had a cost-of-living pay raise for 10 years.
Money for Alabama prisons may help the state avoid a federal lawsuit over prison violence. The Department of Justice condemned state prisons for high rates of violence about a week ago. The DOJ gave Alabama just 49 days to respond. Now, if the State Senate approves, lawmakers will hand over funding for 500 additional correctional officers.
