Passenger rail service may return to Mobile in 24 months

BILOXI, Miss. (WKRG) — Mobile is a step closer to having passenger rail service to New Orleans again.

Mississippi Senator Roger Wicker was able to obtain at $33 million grant for the project. The money combined with the $33 million from the Southern Rail Commission exceeds the $60 million needed for rail improvements. 

Rail advocates say the daily passenger rail service could begin as soon as 24 months.
