House Democrats introduced a bill Wednesday to raise the federal minimum wage to $15 per hour.
Advocates have rallied across the country for the increase and now lawmakers are taking steps to make it happen.
“We’re here today because we believe that no American working full-time should be living in poverty. After nearly 10 years with no increase in the minimum wage, millions of working families are being left behind. We’re also here today because gradually increasing the minimum wage is not only good for workers, it’s also good for business and good for the economy,” said Rep. Bobby Scott, a Democrat from Virginia.
The Wage Act has the support of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. It would gradually raise the minimum wage to $15 per hour by 2024.
