The Escambia County (AL) Sheriff’s Office released the following statement on the death of one of their own:

This morning the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office lost one of our own, Kari Shultz. Kari died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound at her house near the Florida state line. Her case as all cases involving an unattended death will be investigated as a homicide. Since I do not believe we can effectively investigate ourselves, I have asked the State Bureau of Investigation to handle her case. We have no other information that can be released at this time. All future press releases will be through the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, State Bureau of Investigation.

ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Ala. (WKRG) — The State Bureau of Investigation is investigating the death of an Escambia County (AL) Sheriff’s Office employee Wednesday, reports the Brewton Standard.
