MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WIAT) — A new bill in the Alabama Legislature would replace elected school board members with appointed ones. The measure is sponsored by Senate Pro-Tem Del Marsh, R-Anniston, and is also supported by Governor Ivey.
Senator Del Marsh introduced the legislation Thursday. He said Alabama’s chronically low test scores demonstrate a need for change.
This proposal would be a constitutional amendment and Alabama voters would have to agree to make the change.
If approved by lawmakers, this could be before voters on March 3, 2020, the same day as the presidential and U.S. Senate primary.
