It’s a huge honor and well-deserved. Mel Showers was inducted into the Alabama Broadcasters Hall of fame in Birmingham over the weekend.
The organization recognizes broadcasters for their achievements and contributions to the industry. Everyone here at News 5 loves Mel–of that there can be no doubt. My desk has sat connected to his for eight years and I’d have it no other way. He’s always there with wisdom, cheer or good humor. Mel’s insight is like a living historic database and he welcomes every query with a smile. Mel has gone above and beyond and we are proud to work with him.
“I can’t help but thank so many people,” said Showers Saturday. “When you have been around for 46 years that means someone had to watch you and that means that someone cared for you. In the case of my WKRG family, and my Mobile family, I have to admit that today I felt a lot of love.” Alan Sealls, Devon Walsh, Rose Ann Haven, John Nodar, our News Director Mike Rausch, chief photographer Gary Arnold and our General Manager Mark Bunting were all on hand in the Magic City for the special honor for Mel Showers.
