MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG)

8 years ago, multiple tornadoes touched down across the News 5 area in the April 15, 2011 tornado outbreak. Many homes were destroyed and lives were lost in both Greene and Washington counties.

The event lasted through the entire day with severe weather starting in the morning hours and lasting all the way through midnight.

Many of the tornadoes that touched down in the News 5 area during the event were long track tornadoes. The EF-3 tornado that touched down in Greene county devastated parts of Leakesville and claimed one life. An EF-2 tornado in Washington County claimed the lives of 3 people.
