They’re back in the Pensacola skies! The Blue Angels returned to the beach Wednesday afternoon, practicing for their big show on Saturday. The CW 55’s Hayley Minogue joined the early afternoon event, dubbed ‘Breakfast with the Blues.’
If you were anywhere near Pensacola Beach, there’s no doubt you heard them! They spent about two hours over Casino Beach getting their marks and observing the area for the Pensacola Air Show on Saturday.
When they finished up the fly overs, it was time to try a few tricks. “I work in an exciting field, so there’s not much that gets me excited, but this is exciting!” said firefighter Rodney Pittman.
Mike Ellis and his wife said they’ve been going to the show for years, but this year, it is even more special. “We respect the military, and we honor them for what they do for us, and what they mean to the country,” Ellis said.
It was a bittersweet day. While many people are excited to see the Blues back in their hometown, the memory of Captain Jeff Kuss is still weighing heavy on many hearts.
“I think more Americans are going to understand… The sacrifices of the things that they do, and honorable… what they do, and how they should never stop doing this,” said Kim Fuselier, who has a home here in Pensacola.
Pittman said, “I know he dedicated his life to doing what he loved,” when asked about CAPT Kuss.
Dylan Greene, the Audio Engineer for the Blue Angels, also commented on the support of the community. “We’ve had some tragedy, but coming back here, making such a big comeback, is huge. So I’m super stoked, I’m super excited.”
If you missed the Blue Angels on Wednesday, don’t panic! They’ll be back on the beach Thursday at 2, then Friday will be the show’s dress rehearsal, with the main event on Saturday.
We’ll continue our coverage through the weekend.
