MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) – A parent has been arrested for her active involvement in a shooting at Davidson High School last month.
Police say the woman is charged with two counts of assault and one count of hindering prosecution and one count of providing a false address.
She is 46-year-old LaShandra Dortch. Police say she is the mother of a 15-year-old suspect in the case. He too has been arrested.
On January 25th, a 17-year-old boy and a 20-year-old man were shot outside a basketball game on a Davidson High School. They suffered non-life threatening injuries.
Mobile’s Police Chief Lawrence Battiste spoke to us, making a plea to parents. He said, “We want to send a loud resounding message to this community that when parents do not honor their responsibility given to them by God that we will do our job and we will arrest them and ask the courts to hold them accountable.”
While Chief Battiste said Dortch is not the shooter, she played a big role. Battiste said, “15-year-olds, they’re usually transported from location to location by either a family member, a friend of the family, or by a parent, and in this particular case is engaged in doing bad behavior that has caused their child to be, to get involved with the justice system at such a early age.”
