CHICAGO, Ill. (CNN) — Dogs and cats displaced by the deadly tornados in Middle Tennessee are now in safe hands. Several animals were taken to Paws Chicago Friday morning.

Some animals were moved from shelters that were damaged in the storms. Others were surrendered by their owners whose homes were destroyed.

Paws staff and volunteers left for Tennessee Thursday and returned to Chicago with 10 dogs and 13 cats.
