BIKER DAD: Mom says prayers are making a difference for Caleb, boy badly injured in motorcycle crash

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WKRG/BIKER DAD) — “We have a long road of recovery ahead of us,” Nancy Springston tells me. She’s talking about the recovery of her 11-year-old son, Caleb.

Caleb was badly injured in a May crash that killed his grandfather, James Douglas Turner, 59 years old from Theodore, Alabama. A beautiful day for riding and bonding with his grandfather took a terrible turn when they were hit head-on by an SUV on Highway 59 in Loxley.

Although it is a long road, Springston says her son is responding to the power of prayer. Powered by the Pray for Caleb Facebook page, people from all over the country are praying nightly for him at 8pm central. Caleb has been in Children’s Hospital in Birmingham since shortly after the crash. At first he was not conscious. “He might cortical vision loss, his brain may not be communicating the images his eyes are seeing to be able to interpret them. As he heals and his brain heals the degree to which this vision loss occurs may change and it’s hard to know. Time will tell as he recovers,” Springston tells me.

But, she also tells me the prayers are working. Caleb is now opening his eyes, and moving his arm. He even waved for a recent photo.

In another photo, he flashed the “I love you” sign.

Bikers rode to raise more than $7,000 in mid-May, to help what will surely be staggering medical costs.

Boy severely burned in Foley fire now in outpatient care

FOLEY, Ala. (WKRG) — It’s not home but 5-year-old Jaysin Hackett is out of the hospital and resting a little easier today in Galveston, Texas. He’s been there with his dad since before Christmas.

“He’s been doing good. He’s got to where he can get out of his splints and actually use his fingers. He’s been playing Pokémon Go. Anything he can do on his tablet. He can eat with his fingers, he’s eating skittles right now,” said Justin Hackett.

BIKER DAD REPORT: Macho Man motorcycle mystery and a family backed by bikers while healing after fire

FOLEY, Ala. (WKRG/BIKER DAD) — A Foley family is holding out hope Friday after a devastating fire left a mother and child badly burned. We've been saying how motorcycle riders are rolling out to help. And there is good news.

One of the fire victims, 5-year-old Jaysin Hacket, just got out of the hospital this week after being flown to a burn unit in Galveston, Texas. We showed you video of him last week taking his first steps since arriving there. His dad says he will stay in Texas for at least a month. He spoke with WKRG News 5's Blake Brown. Justin Hacket said, "I've seen what they do and anything of that sorts so I'm a lot more comfortable now and I know that he's a lot more comfortable because he doesn't have them coming in at all hours of the day trying to pick him and poke him."

BIKER DAD: Thieves swipe motorcycle that belonged to wrestling legend Randy ‘Macho Man’ Savage

MASON CITY, Iowa (WKRG/BIKER DAD) -- When professional wrestling legend Randy "Macho Man" Savage was preparing to put the smackdown on Sturgis, South Dakota in the 1990s he wanted to do it in true biker style. He was preparing for the World Championship Wrestling pay-per-view event "WCW Hog Wild" taking place in the town known as a motorcycle mecca.

Savage ordered a custom motorcycle for nearly $60,000 and had it delivered all the way from California to his home in Tampa, Florida. That's according to former wrestling manager Sonny Onoo, who now owns the bike. But that unique piece of motorcycle and Macho Man history has now vanished. Onoo says the Macho Man bike and two others were stolen from his warehouse in Mason City, Iowa. Now, he hopes people will share pictures of the motorcycle and the others so he can get them back.
