BIKER DAD: Historic bikes help keep a piece of Dauphin Island history alive

It has stood the test of time. Dauphin Island’s Little Red School House was where generation after generation was educated on the island. It was saved from demolition by people who loved it too much to see it turned into a heap of scrap.

So it’s fitting that bikes that have stood the test of time, many saved from becoming heaps of scrap themselves, helped keep the Little Red School House going. The Mobile Bay Vintage Motorcycle Club hosted hundreds of vintage bikes Saturday, their owners and even far more people who came to see them.

Motorcycle owners pay an entry fee for the annual event which goes to the school house. The building now serves as a welcome center and museum.
