GULF SHORES, Ala. (WKRG) – Drivers may do a double take the next time they are driving along Highway 135 in Gulf State Park. Beginning on Tuesday, there’s a new speed limit on the road. The new posted speed limit is 26 mph, down from 35. New signs and radar reminders are now in place and beginning on Thursday, you can expect to see more Gulf Shores Police and Alabama State Parks rangers out to enforce the speed limit.

“We believe the unusual speed limit on the signs will help drivers take note and slow down,” said Gulf Shores Chief of Police Edward J. Delmore. “The new limit of 26 miles an hour emphasizes that something is different.”

The Lodge at Gulf State Park will open next month, bringing even more traffic to the area. Gulf Shores and state parks officials believe lowering the speed limit before that opening will benefit guests.
