SPANISH FORT, Ala. (WKRG) — By law, tow truck drivers responding to emergencies are revered as highly as police and fire officials.
But off paper, drivers tell us they aren’t always treated that way when they’re in action.
“They come by you running 80 miles an hour,” said Brian Williamson of Semmes Towing and Recovery. “Almost sucks your shirt off with the wind coming by.”
News 5 rode along with Semmes Towing on the Causeway to see the close calls for ourselves.
Video attached to this article shows how close cars got to Williamson while he tried to work.
He hopes to raise awareness about these dangers for the general population of drivers, and hopes authorities begin to more strongly enforce the law.
“I’d just like to see everyone make it home with their kids at the end of the day,” Williamson said.
