BAY MINETTE, Ala. (WKRG) – Baldwin County Sheriff’s Deputy Tyler Ludke will face his fear of roller coasters tomorrow, and teachers at Bay Minette Elementary School will get a financial boost for their classrooms. Ludke has had a lifelong fear of roller coasters. But, two weeks ago, what started as a joke between friends turned into a real social media challenge and fundraiser.
“It’s a great feeling knowing that something that started as a joke because of a fear I have has turned into kids being able to receive a little bit of money in areas they may need it,” said Ludke.
Pate Cardwell is Ludke’s friend and co-host of the Facebook live show, “Stay Up Late with Tyler and Pate”. Cardwell started a GoFundMe account for the fundraiser. Their goal was to raise $1,000 for teachers at BMES during the upcoming school year, as needed.
“I have to give Pate all the credit for coming up with the idea. He’s very creative,” Ludke told News 5. “It’s really been fun and it’ll be good for the teachers and students to receive the money.”
The fundraiser exceeded its goal and currently sits at $1,010. Saturday morning, Ludke will make good on his promise and he will ride “Rolling Thunder” at OWA.
“I’m very nervous! But excited because of what I’m doing it for. I’m ready to get it over though,” said Ludke.
