GULF SHORES, Ala. (WKRG) — Red flags are flying at beaches in Gulf Shores, Orange Beach and along the Fort Morgan peninsula in Baldwin County.

Red flags warn of a high risk of rip currents and lifeguards and public safety officials advise beachgoers to stay out of the water.

A strong southeast wind is churning up the Gulf with waves topping out at 3-4 feet.

Red flags are expected to continue at least through Thursday.
