Police pursuit ends near Summerdale, driver in custody

UPDATE (8:10 am) — The driver has been identified as 47-year-old Joshua Errin Fuqua. He’s been charged with reckless endangerment, resisting arrest, attempting to elude, and obstructing government operations. Fuqua’s bond has been set at $6,000.

SUMMERDALE, Ala. (WKRG) — Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office said a police pursuit has ended near Summerdale off of County Road 36. Blake Brown was first on scene moments after the chase ended around 2:30 p.m. Monday.

According to BCSO that chase began near Highway 90 and several agencies had assisted. A deputy spotted a reckless driver we’re told. SWAT arrived on scene as the driver barricaded himself inside the car at the end of County Road 36. BCSO confirms the driver was waving a large knife outside his truck window making threatening comments towards deputies. During the nearly two-hour standoff the BCSO says the driver cut himself in the arm with the knife. He was eventually removed from the vehicle and taken to an area hospital for minor cuts. His identity has not yet been released, but we are told he is from Florida.
