ONLY ON 5: Plans move forward to re-do Bama Bayou in Orange Beach

Baldwin County

ORANGE BEACH, Ala. (WKRG) — Earlier this summer, the city of Orange Beach entered into an agreement with a development group out of Texas on the Bama Bayou property. News Five has learned all the requirements of that agreement have been met and the project is moving forward.

The Presidium Group plans to develop the dilapidated property into a retail-entertainment destination including hotel and condos, Gulf and marine services, a convention center and water park. The first phase of the project includes site cleanup, a Gulf World Marine park with aquariums, dolphin and sea lion shows, restaurants and numerous educational opportunities.

The Bama Bayou sits at the entrance to the city of Orange Beach just north of the intracoastal waterway. Money issues stalled construction and eventually, the project was abandoned.

A 15-acre water park with slides and wave pools is also planned.

A special-called city council meeting will be held next Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. for a public hearing and possibly a vote on the proposal.
