FAIRHOPE, Ala. (WKRG) — It’s 2019, and Chief Stephanie Hollinghead’s first full calendar year leading the Fairhope Police Department.
She spoke with News 5 Tuesday about various goals for the department, as well as challenges the department faces as the city continues to grow so quickly.
“Oh it’s growing extremely fast,” Chief Hollinghead said. “And one of the things we receive on a daily basis are traffic issues. So our command staff constantly gets together with our mayor and our council to say ‘How can we tackle this?'”
She also addressed the need for more police officers, hopeful plans to incorporate new training relating to domestic abuse calls and situations where someone may have a mental illness.
Hollinghead is the first female chief of police in Fairhope, but says she’s blind to the gender aspect of that notion, and is “honored” to serve the post. She began with the department 13 years ago in the patrol division.
She encourages anyone with questions or concerns regarding the department to reach out by calling (251) 928-2385.
