BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. (WKRG) – Alabama Law Enforcement Agency has identified the man thrown from the I-10 Bayway after an accident Saturday night.
ALEA confirms the man who was thrown over the bridge wall into the water below is Damion Wright.
The car Wright was in had mechanical issues and came to a stop in the inside emergency lane. Wright reportedly got out and walked to the front of the vehicle to work under the hood. While working on the vehicle, it was struck from behind by a 2016 Ford Fusion. The collision caused the male to be thrown over the bridge wall and into the water below. ALEA Marine Patrol Troopers were notified and responded to the scene where the victim was retrieved from the water and returned to land safely. He was checked by medics on scene and had only minor injuries.
Wright tells News 5 he was terrified, but only had some cuts and bruises after the accident. His two-month-old son and the child’s mother were in the car during the accident. They were ok as well. They were heading to Daphne at the time of the accident.
ALEA tells News 5 the driver of the Fusion didn’t see the car in the left lane and hit them. Both cars had to be towed from the scene.
Both lanes of I-10 eastbound were shut down for some time.
