“Lighthouse on the Beach” holding first services without lighthouse

Baldwin County

“God’s Lighthouse” is going to have to give it a go without a lighthouse.  Today are the first services for Romar Beach Baptist Church in Orange Beach since Tropical Storm Gordon toppled their steeple.  The multi-story steeple miraculously landed, mostly in one piece, beside the church.  It amazingly did not cause additional damage to the church or nearby condos.  Repairs continue on the structure.

“The steeple is deforming and beginning to break up. We have strapped it to keep it from falling. We made bring it down this afternoon,” said Associate Pastor Robert Gardner Sunday morning via text message.

Service times are 9 and 11 Sunday morning.  The associate pastor says they still need help paying for repairs.  While the church does have insurance they don’t have the money to cover the deductible.  Gardner says they haven’t ironed out what sort of fundraising they will do to repair or replace the structure.
