Independence Day concert, fireworks planned in Fairhope

The Baldwin Pops Band, along with the 151st Army Band from Montgomery will present an Independence Day concert at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 4 at Henry George Park in Fairhope. Fireworks will begin at 9 p.m.

Each band will perform part of the concert then will combine for the second half.

Conductor Dr. Jason Rinehart will lead the Baldwin Pops in selections including American Salute by Morton Gould, Shenandoah by Frank Ticheli, Patriotic Fantasy based on themes by George M. Cohan, and Who’s Who in Navy Blue by John Philip Sousa. Fairhope High School Band Director, Wayne Fillingim, will be featured singing God Bless the USA by Lee Greenwood.

The combined bands will perform America the Beautiful, National Emblem, The Liberty Bell, Stars and Stripes Forever.

Guests should bring chairs or blankets and are encouraged to bring a picnic supper. After intermission, there will be a children’s parade with flags. The Checkered Tablecloth Award will be presented to the person or group with the most interesting picnic setup.

This concert is sponsored by the City of Fairhope. In addition, the Baldwin Pops Band is sponsored by a grant from the Alabama State Council on the Arts.
