STOCKTON, Ala. (WKRG) — A historic home in Stockton went up in flames Tuesday night, and the owner of the building thinks someone intentionally set it on fire.

The house on Cottage Hill Road has been there for 119 years, according to owner Albert Crane. He bought it in 2004 as a rental property.

The building is a total loss.

Crane believes his former tenants – whom he evicted because he said they dealt drugs and were seven months late on their rent payments – set the house ablaze. He said there was no other way it could have caught fire.

“The electricity was off, nothing was on,” Crane said. “It has been cleaned out, wasn’t no trash in it except maybe a bed.”

Crane made a report with the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, which has sent the case to the State Fire Marshall. We reached out to the State Fire Marshall but have not heard back.
